Beautiful appointed accommodations

The stunning suites at El Convento Boutique Hotel are wonderfully evocative of an earlier time, while still offering the most contemporary comforts. All 26 suites are named after noteworthy people and places here in Antigua Guatemala and the surrounding area. Most surround a central courtyard, punctuated by a century-old Tempixque tree. While each and every suite is distinct, all feature warm, soothing décor, bespoke furnishings, and unique local art and artistry. Some suites include fireplaces, tranquil private gardens, or terraces with Jacuzzis; sleek bathrooms offer rain showers and are stocked with premium L’Occitane bath products.     Located in front of our hotel, the Capuchin Convent was the last convent built in Antigua before the city’s destruction in 1773. This cloister is unique both in its architecture and the way it was built in 1736 by the distinguished architect Diego de Porres. Tucked away at the end of a brick-vaulted hallway lies the Capuchinas Suite, crisp and modern in white and turquoise. This spacious suite provides a wrought iron King bed, candle chandelier and generous bathroom. Outside of the suite is a tranquil patio, complete with lion’s head wall fountain and bubbling Jacuzzi.

  • Doña Beatriz Suite

    Doña Beatriz, the wife of Guatemala’s conquistador Pedro de Alvarado, succeeded her husband as Governor of the Province of Guatemala upon his death in 1541, signing her name as La Sin Ventura (“unlucky one”). She later perished in a city-destroying landslide caused by an earthquake. From the cinnamon-colored crackled walls to the richly patterned pillows, texture abounds in this intimate yet spacious suite with King bed. The adjacent bath boasts double sinks and separate shower and tub areas.

    Old folktales describe the many romances of El Conquistador Don Pedro de Alvarado, including one with a Mayan woman, which produced a daughter, Doña Anica. She tragically lost her life, at only five years of age, during the Antigua flooding. Her namesake suite contains a canopy King bed with clean, elegant lines accented by sage and turquoise pillows. The suite also contains a comfortable wide leather armchair; a spacious brick-vaulted bathroom offers natural skylights and a generously sized tub, worthy of a long soak.
