  • Wonderful respite

A truly relaxing, charming and friendly spot right in the heart of Antigua but yet a world away from crowds. Sounds of running water, birds, lots of shady nooks and places to sit, very friendly staff, good

Wanted to spend a special birthday with friends at a special place. Had heard about El Convento from a group that had recently been down for a destination wedding, and certainly wasn't disappointed. The hotel has beautiful grounds that are meticulously cared for and candlelit each night. The rooms have fireplaces which just add to the ambience. The bathrooms in the suites are incredibly huge and the bathtub might be classified as a pool as I literally could float in it. If you are traveling with a group or family, book the two story Don Alvarado suite that comes with an outdoor jacuzzi on the veranda.Love the library with the fireplace, but please get rid of the horrible scent that permeates the room and ruins the mood. Helpful and friendly staff, but many understand little English which could be a problem for some travelers. The restaurant is clearly one of the best in town, and very reasonably priced. Will definitely come back an visit El Convento and Antigua. I do think the rooms are too dimly lit, especially during the rainy season.

we stayed at the hotel for four nights. The hotel and rooms are spotless and you immediately feel like you have been transported to another world. The centre of town and attractions in the city are all in walking distance from the hotel. The staff were friendly, helpful and luckily spoke enough english to balance our very bad spanish. Our stay here was a highlight and I would definitely recommend it.

Felicitaciones !!

A truly relaxing, charming and friendly spot right in the heart of Antigua but yet a world away from crowds. Sounds of running water, birds, lots of shady nooks and places to sit, very friendly staff, good food and drinks, what more can we say? Also, the best-smelling hotel we've ever stayed in, lots of different intriguing smells but very light, not intrusive at all We loved it!
Room Tip: For quiet, choose rooms away from street side.

Arrived in Antigua for a destination wedding. Originally had booked another hotel but changed within an hour to El Convento. The hotel is gorgeous, the staff very friendly and accommodating, and the service was top notch! Brenda, at the front desk, went out of her way to call numerous times to the airline to try and claim our lost luggage which arrived the next day! The food served at the restaurant was delicious! It is centrally located and they help in every way possible.

If we ever get the opportunity to go back to Antigua we will definitely stay at El Convento!!
